Two Most Promising HIV Vaccines Fail

The recent failure of two hopeful HIV vaccines that left study participants at an increased risk of being infected with HIV has seriously damaged the continuation of vaccine studies. Scientists are doubting the basic premises on which many vaccine studies are based. As a result of the recent failures of the STEP and Phambili studies, many other studies have been stopped, others are sure to be modified or cancelled outright. This is a near worst-case scenario for vaccine researchers who unwittingly risked the health of their study participants.
